I do not have epilepsy or have had a Gamma Knife treatment. I had brain surgery to remove 3 years ago of brain cancer. When I was investigated treatment options for me, I have the Gamma Knife, CyberKnife and proton and spoke with health professionals about it. Are all forms of intense radiation directly to the area of the brain, where the violation exists.

I felt that any form of radiation was too risky for me. There was no danger of damaging the surrounding tissue. In my case, the optic nerves involved and the main artery providing blood supply to the brain.

The radiation is not a cure. In my case, it would stop tumor growth or caused tumor shrinkage to cut the blood supply to the tumor. My only chance for cure is surgery.

Radiation, the scar tissue around the treated area shape causes. The scars after the surgery is more complicated and risky.

Radiation is known to cause tumors. Based radiation into the brain, your chancesTumors of the brain development is higher.

I talked with other patients with brain tumors who have opted for the irradiation with good results.

As for me, although I was skullbase operation was very risky, I felt that radiotherapy involved a higher risk than the surgery.

Incidentally, I was free of tumor 3 years.

So my advice is to inform you before any treatment decision. It depends on you, not your doctor.

The so-called Gamma Knife - concentration of radiation at a point in the brain - it offers an alternative to surgery for one of the most common forms of epilepsy to open.
